Many of you will know club member Gary Sharp, the talented golfer from Dunfermline. What many of you will not know; he is only the 2nd most talented golfer in the family; he has past that particular crown to his son Jack, who joined the Club in the summer and is now perhaps our youngest member Having graduated this year, Jack has become somewhat of an entrepreneur in the local golfing scene and is currently working on a project, with a local kilt maker, to recycle the waste material in to something beautiful; bespoke handmade wood covers to personal order. I have been working with Jack to produce something that has a Thistle GC logo and I’m delighted with the outcome, although some of you may not like the ‘Munro Clan’ Tartan. I would like to reassure you all that the Thistle Club is only promoting Jack’s venture and has no financial or other interest in his business and your contract with Jack is purely personal. The product in environmentally friendly and I’m happy to show any of you the quality of the finish, I also think it would make a nice Christmas present for any golfer. Jack can be contacted at JackSharp03@hotmail.com for details and pricing’s etc. Good luck Jack in your new venture.

| 06/07/2026 | **Ladies Putting Club Match - Jul 26** *Second Best (again)* Last week the Thistle Club held it's annual fixture against the Ladies Putting Club (LPC) in bright and breezy conditions. Despite a mix of experience and youth in the Club team the Ladies managed to retain the trophy. Many thanks to those who represented the Club and to the ladies for an enjoyable day and lovely refreshments. |
| 21/01/2026 | **New HowDidIDo App** *The Club will be paying Club Systems for the new HowDidIDo App* Your Committee of Management has agreed that the Thistle Club will pay Club Systems £1400+vat for members to be able to access the ad free version of the New HowDidIDo App. It was unclear from previous communications with Club Systems whether golfers who were members of more than one club could link their clubs through the single app, an important feature for all Thistle Club members. Assurance has now been received from Club Systems that linking will be possible. This means that you shouldn't need to pay an individual fee (either £2.99 or £9.99) to be able to link your clubs. For those of you who have already downloaded the new app you may see that the clubs are already linked while the two week free trial period is running. This should continue after our club payment has been processed. We have also been advised that Intelligent Golf will also be included in the HDID app sometime in March. This should benefit New Club Members. Previous communication has highlighted that there have been some issues with the new App launch, particularly regarding score verification. Our advice requesting everyone use the old HDID or ClubV1 apps for score processing still applies until further notice. Dave Binyon Captain |
| 21/01/2026 | **Annual Presentation of Prizes for 2025** *Friday 16th January 2026* An excellent evening was enjoyed by all at the St Andrews Thistle Golf Club Prizegiving last Friday, held in the welcoming surroundings of the St Andrews Golf Club. We extend our sincere thanks to the St Andrews Golf Club for the generous use of their clubhouse for our annual celebration. Equal appreciation goes to their catering team, whose superb food, refreshments, and attentive service contributed greatly to the success of the evening. We were honoured to welcome our guest of the evening, Ian Pattinson, past Captain of the R&A, who entertained the room with his wonderfully humorous after-dinner remarks. We are most grateful to him for making the journey north to join us. Finally, warm congratulations to all of our prize winners from the past season, many of whom were able to collect their awards on the night. Their achievements reflect the spirit and camaraderie that continue to define our club. |
| 19/01/2026 | **Thistle GC Competition Scoring** *HDID App issues* Due to ongoing issues with the new HDID App, members are advised to use the older versions of Club V1 Member / HDID App to record and submit competition scores. This will remain in place until the committee are satisfied that the new HDID App is fit for purpose. The older applications remain within the App Store if you have already deleted them from your electronic devices. Members will receive an email shortly with more details. |

| 25/11/2025 | **Perfect Golfers Christmas Present** *Kevin Davidson drives out his first novel !!* Congratulations to Club Member and previous Club Champion Kevin Davidson who has just released his first novel. Book overview from Amazon… The Magic In St Andrews is a rich tapestry of vivid memories and uplifting tales. It is a heartfelt and inspiring memoir of enduring connections with the ancient town of St Andrews, and the transformative impact it has had on the author’s golfing and personal life. The author is repeatedly drawn back over the years by a calling he cannot fully explain. The town has left a profound mark, shaping experiences and friendships that reveal how golf can be more than scorecards and swings…something deeper, something closer to the soul. So, rather than asking for some socks and underpants on your Santa List, make sure that Kevin’s first blockbuster is first on your list. Kevin has assured me that he will sign every Thistle Club members copy so that when he is famous, your copy is worth £20 more on EBay. |

| 11/04/2025 | **Order of Merit - 2025** *Another chance for fame and glory* The committee have recently approved a proposal to create an Order of Merit (OOM) competition in both Gross and Nett categories; entry to both competitions is available to Club members at no cost. OOM points will be awarded to the top ten places in our summer competition fixture list from 1 March to 30 September 2025. Points will be awarded as follows; 1st place 10, 2nd 9, 3rd 8 etc etc. When the competition takes place on a single course then countback will be used to determine the exact top 10 but if the competition is played on an optional course basis then final scores will be adjusted using the relevant course rating of each course and points awarded accordingly. Any tied scores will result in the relevant number of points being shared equally between those involved. The committee hopes that this added incentive will encourage participation. At the end of the competition vouchers will be awarded to the top 3 places. |
| 21/02/2025 | **Life Membership Awards** *Recognition of Service* At the recent Annual General Meeting two of our senior members were awarded Life Membership in recognition of their services to the Thistle Golf Club. Club President George Cunningham joined the Club in 1972 and has held every Committee post during this time. Current Club Treasurer Mike Hopkins has been a Committee member for over 10 years; developed huge areas of administration during this time and has controlled the finances of the club for many years. Congratulations Gentlemen on your awards which are richly deserved. Picture shows George and Mike with Captain Bill Donaldson. |
| 24/01/2025 | **2024 - Club Prizes Presentation** *Silverware on show* The Club recently held its annual prizes presentation in the St Andrews Golf Club. Those present were entertained by Neil Donaldson's presentation as a year in the life of the Captain of the Royal and Ancient Golf Club and our thanks go to the Captain, Committee and Catering staff of the St Andrews Golf Club for their hospitality and excellent cuisine and service. Congratulations to all winners but especially Alan Gardiner and Dave Binyon as Class 1 and Class 2 Club Champions; mention also to Chief Bandit Jim Thom who seemed to need a table to himself for all his trophies. |
| 26/07/2024 | **Match Sec's HIO on the Eden** *Beers are on David* Many congratulations to our own Match Secretary David Munro for his Hole in One on the 5th hole on the Eden Course yesterday. It's a pity that BOSS have stopped their sponsorship Watches of the HDID HIO competition; but if you look at his wrist, this quiet, unassuming man, already has one of these. This is David's 5th hole in one; he does however play alot of golf. |
| 20/07/2024 | **2024 Club Champions Crowned** *Munro Cup - Alan Gardiner* After a very busy week of golf Alan Gardiner (2&1) was able to overcome a strong challenge in the final from Stevie Hutcheon to be crowned Club Champion and winner of the Munro Cup. A couple of early mistakes by Stevie gave Alan a head start and despite a spirited comeback Stevie wasn't able to recover the lost ground. Congratulations to both players who have both taken some considerable scalps during the week to take them to the final. |
| 20/07/2024 | **2024 Club Champions Crowned** *Menzies Trophy - Dave Binyon* After a very busy week of golf Dave Binyon (3&2) was able to make the most of a couple of mistakes from Callan Duck on the 12th and 16th to be crowned Club Champion and winner of the Menzies Trophy. A very tight game on the front 9 saw the match all square as it entered the back 9, Callan pushed his drive on 12 in to the penal rough down the right and made bogey, whilst Dave secured his par. Dave took the lead and despite coming perilously close to sticking his approach on 14 in to the pond was able to make par. Despite the score the match was very evenly contested. Congratulations to both players who have both taken some considerable scalps during the week to take them to the final and my thanks to George Welch for making the effort to come out to spectate. |
| 16/07/2024 | **Club Championships - 2024** *Round One completed* We will see a new Class 1 Club Champion crowned this year but who will that be?? Defending Class 2 Champion John Nicol successfully made it through to the quarter finals with a close 2 and 1 victory. All the results are posted up on Club V1 / Documents for your persual. Next round continues tonight at 5.04pm on the Jubilee (Class1) and Eden (Class 2); forecast is for rain today so don't forget your umbrella if you are spectating. |
| 16/07/2024 | **Club Championships 2024 - Quarter Finals Report** *Hole in one for the Caddie Master* The Club Championships knockouts have been entered on to Club V1 today; so, you can check on the progress using the knockouts section. The forecast wasn’t great for tonight and as I left Cupar to head to the Jubilee Course it was pelting it down; I felt sorry for those who were competing in the Quarter Finals and I’m sure the weather has affected some of the matches; no doubt the rampant rough on both courses will have been doubly difficult when soaking wet. Class 1. Imagine this; you are soaked to your boxer shorts and you are all square after 16; you know that the last two holes on the Jubilee are pretty tough and the last thing you need is extra holes. What better way to go 1up is to drain your tee shot on the 17th; outstanding and congratulations to Paul Ellison. I hoped you tee’d off first and turned to Keith Muir; “that’s for a half Keith!!”. Class 2. Some close contests on the Eden this evening but as they say “like a Duck to water”. Trev Trangmar and Callan Duck went all the way to the 20th hole before Callan managed to win. Apparently, a group of visitors cut in on the 10th in between our matches and I will be speaking to the Links Staff tomorrow. If this affected your game then please accept the Clubs apologies. Anyway, the results are in and congratulations to the winners who by now will have the tumble dryer in flat out mode hoping to get things dry for tomorrow night’s semi-finals. There will be a break on Thursday when we have the Presidents Putter on the Eden Course before the finals starting at 5.04pm on Friday evening. The captain has generously offered to pick up the bar tab afterwards to celebrate the new Champions being crowned; after the week I’ve had it may be a late night and Paul Ellison will definitely be contributing to the bar tab. Tomorrow’s semi-finalists will be; Class 1 Paul Ellison v Stevie Hutcheon Alan Gardiner v Martin Ritchie Class 2 Callan Duck v Brad Gibson Dave Binyon v Graham Clelland |
| 30/06/2024 | **Club Championships Draw - 2024** *Club Championships - 2024* The draws for the Munro Cup (Class 1) and Menzies Trophy (Class 2) have been completed and are available to view in Club V1/Documents/Competitions. |
| 24/05/2024 | **Hole in One Warning** *Eden Course 15th* Congratulations to Club Member John Nicol who aced the 15th hole on the Eden Course during a Club knockout tie. In to a strong wind John struck his 3 wood on to the green to see it roll gently in to the hole. I hope he bought the drinks. |
| 23/05/2024 | **R&A Testing Centre Visit - 11 Jun 24** *Club Visit* Further to Steve Otto's talk at the Annual Prizegiving a visit has been arranged to the R&A Testing Facility at Allan Robertson House, Kingsbarns on Tuesday 11th June at 10.00am. Having had the opportunity to visit the facility previously it is extremely interesting and one which is highly recommended The maximum size of group which can be accommodated is 15 so if we are oversubscribed names will be balloted and arrangements made for a second visit. The event has been set up in Club Teams and please add your name if you wish to attend by Sunday 26th May at the latest. |
| 02/05/2024 | **Spring Outing - Ballumbie Park GC** *Thistle Bunnet Winner* Congratulations to this years winner of the Thistle Bunnet - Mr Trevor Trangmar |
| 09/04/2024 | **Five Club Trophy - 11 Apr 24** *Weather Postponement* The current update from St Andrews Links Trust is that 5 holes on the Strathtyrum Course are still closed due to flooding; the forecast today and tomorrow is for more rain and so the situation is unlikely to improve. The Committee have therefore taken the decision to postpone the event until our free week on 30 May 24. On the plus side you can all nip out and buy some beers and snacks and settle down to watch day 1 of the Masters. |

| 01/11/2021 | **Winter Golf Update 2021-22** *Bruce Trophy and KC Wright Eclectic* Bruce Trophy * The club will run weekly rounds of the Bruce Trophy starting 7th October 2021 with the final round on 24th February 2022. As in previous years the competition will be run as a *strokeplay COUNTING COMPETITION. It is still the best aggregate score from 3 courses, and the courses this year will be Eden (black tees), Jubilee Bronze and the best net score from either the New or Old (black tees), and you can play one or both during the course of the competition, whichever is your preference. The golfer with the lowest aggregate round after 24th Feb 2022 will win the Bruce Trophy. We are awaiting clarification from the Links as to the status of the Eden Course over the winter and whether it will be operating as 2 x 9 holes. Players will choose their own playing partners and select whichever course they would like to play. To enter the competition golfers will be asked to sign in to the competition as usual through Howdidido or ClubV1, sign in opens on the Tuesday prior to the competition. Scores should be entered through Howdidido or ClubV1 as we have been doing for competitions throughout the year. (See later on inputting marker scores). There will be a small number of competitions played through the St Andrews Golf Club and the New Golf Club on the Thursdays of a Bruce Trophy. To avoid having a duplicate entry in your WHS handicap record as a result of both competitions being COUNTING we would advise golfers to play in one competition only. KC Wright Memorial Shield From 7th October 2021 we will also be operating the KC Wright Memorial Shield with the final round being played on 24th February 2022. As in previous years this competition will be a NON-COUNTING ECLECTIC competition over the Strathtyrum (blue tees). Players will select their own playing partners and arrange own times. The handicap allowance will be 50% of the course handicap at the time of your first round. Players wishing to play must sign-in to each round prior to play and must enter their GROSS SCORE for each hole played on scorecard. Golfers can play less than full round but all relevant scores must be entered through Howdidido / ClubV1 each week after play and the system will automatically calculate if you have bettered your previous score at any hole. (See below for inputting marker scores). If the Strathtyrum Course is open, at any time on the day, play is permitted i.e. any delay in opening due to frost etc. does not stop members playing , unless the course is closed all day. |
